Whom is Home Tuition for?

This course is suitable for those learners who would like to increase their confidence when using German, enlarge their vocabulary and experience full immersion into the language to attain their language goals rapidly. A specifically designed programme will meet your individual needs for learning German.

It is often chosen by learners from a business environment who do not have a lot of time at hand and are coming for 1 to 3 weeks to develop their German language skills in an area of their choice. If possible, try to stay at least 2 weeks.

Private
learners are equally fascinated by the course and the outcome and usually stay from 2 to 6 weeks, using this course to finally gain confidence when speaking; often, they have attended many courses before but without making the progress they expected.

It is also the most suitable programme for students seeking intensive and tailor-made preparation for any exam, ensuring that by the time they take the exam they can be confident they will pass it.

If you want to send your teenage children from 14 to 17 into the home tuition programme, please send us an email or download our pdf filedeutsch-sprachige Seite.

Language Course Programme

Depending on how much time you would like to spend, 2 types of programmes are on offer:

The standard programme comprises 20 tuition lessons and 30 practical lessons per week. Teaching takes place in the morning from 9:00 to 12:30. In the afternoon, you will have time for yourself and for the practical lessons of about 3 hours daily on average. Do not forget to set aside some time for revision, too – we recommend about 2 hours daily.

The full immersion programme comprises 35 tuition lessons and 25 practical lessons. Teaching takes place from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm and from about 2:00 pm to 4:15 pm. The practical lessons take place after the class in the afternoon and evening. This is a full-day programme and will not allow you to have a lot of time to yourself, as you should also set aside some time for the homework (revision).

In the standard course, students will have one teacher in the morning. In the full immersion course, they will have tuition in the morning and in the afternoon. Often there will be two teachers, with one coming to the house.

You can help your teacher by providing as much information as possible about your objectives prior to the course, so that the teacher can already develop a feeling for the situations in which you most want to use German.

Training focus

The overall objective of the courses is usually to develop the skills needed to communicate in German confidently and to increase confidence in general when using everyday German or business German. If you have different or additional objectives, please let us know – the course will be 100% tailored to your needs.

Business German
The topics are chosen in pre-course consultation with the student based on a negotiated syllabus and can be amended at any time during the course. Depending on the level and the objectives, the course will cover everyday or business situations. If business German is chosen, the areas to be improved can cover: small talk, presentation skills, negotiating, telephoning, writing e-mail and reports, and learning about business etiquette in Germany.

General German
The course will develop all the practical communication skills, with special emphasis on speaking, pronunciation and listening. Speaking in particular will be developed and improved.

Exam Preparation
So far, we have succeeded in helping all students to pass the exam. We are experienced enough to tell you where you are standing right now with your German and what you will need to do to pass the exam.

"You will live with a family consisting of three people and a friendly dog in a lovely green residential area in Bamberg. The teaching will take place in cooperation with an additional teacher; you will have a male and a female teacher each. Both teachers have a strong background in German studies and, in addition to their degree, have many years' experience in teaching German as a foreign language. Furthermore, the teachers have both lived and taught abroad and are therefore extremely familiar with the challenges of living in an unfamiliar country and learning a foreign language. And if, in addition, you enjoy delicious food, a glass of wine and discussions about anything and everything, then you will fit right in".

Couple without children

"You will live with a couple about 25 km outside of Bamberg in the picturesque countryside of so-called Franconian Switzerland, in a town dominated by small timber-framed houses. The couple enjoy a very healthy lifestyle, which is reflected in their cooking and the certified allergy-free guest room. The teacher, a woman, enjoys cooking and baking as well as strolling through the hills of Franconia. They live right in the centre of Forchheim."

Characteristics

All teachers have a strong background in German studies and, in addition to their university degree, many years of experience in teaching German as a foreign language to adults. Many of them have lived and taught abroad themselves and are familiar with the challenges of living in another country and learning a foreign language.

  • They all hold a university degree in German

  • They have many years of teaching experience at schools, universities and companies in Germany and abroad.

  • They are aged between 45 and 55.

  • They have partners who support them in having language guests at home.

  • They are open, curious, supportive, patient, helpful and last but not least professional.

  • They all cook very well and healthily!

What can you expect?

Professional teachers with at least 15 years of teaching experience, often more. Attractive and safe lodgings and surroundings.
A friendly couple or family who are at the same time experienced hosts
A language programme designed to your needs specifically. The school will be your contact for the time of your stay to help you with any queries you might have. Advice for future studies: This is a very important subject - as you will be well aware, 1 or 2 weeks of home tuition will not be enough. Accommodation and Catering

You will be living in the teacher's house and with the teacher's family. You will have a single room with a private bathroom. The host family will provide either half or full board. Availability will depend on the family. On Sunday, the family will offer to take you along for a meal outside the house. The Sunday meals are not included, which means you would have to pay for the meals if you joined the family.

What is right for you will depend on your ideas of the home stay.

If you choose half board, you will have breakfast and dinner with the family.

For lunch you will go out and explore places on your own or meet with students from the TREFFPUNKT community.

If you do not want to go out but be close to the family at all times, then we recommend full-board catering.

If you are not sure beforehand what you would like to book, please talk to us; we will be happy to advise you. Please also note that you can also do one week of half board and one week of full board.

Bamberg is a treasure chest of architecture and a piece of living history. Set, like Rome, on seven hills and justly known as one of the most beautiful towns in all of Europe, Bamberg's magic is inextricably linked to its rich history as the one-time capital of the Holy Roman Empire under Heinrich II, the town's most famous son. It is, however, by no means a dry museum exhibit. Bamberg is a lively joy to visit for its history, antiques shops, and world-famous symphony orchestra.

The university with its 12,000 students ensures that it is also vibrant and exciting. Last but not least it is called a beer drinker's Eden, producing more than thirty varieties of beer in its 9 family-run breweries. One of these beers, the smoky "Rauchbier", first brewed in 1536, is absolutely unique. Students can relax, stroll through the romantic streets of Bamberg, see the sights or take part in one of the numerous cultural activities on offer in the town. At any time of the year, Bamberg offers its visitors a varied programme.

The architecture is testament to the proud history of the city and the charm of old Franconia. As a visitor you can feel the vital link between history, tradition and contemporary life.
