Target Group
Home tuition is an intensive language study programme
for students who want to live and study in the
home of the teacher. This course is for all of
those who would like to increase confidence when
using German, enlarge their vocabulary and experience
full immersion into the language to reach their
language goals quickly and who want to be encouraged
and stimulated constantly to use German as often
as possible.
It is also the right programme for students who would like to
gain or regain the confidence to speak in German and to develop
their German language skill in an area of their choice.
Objective of the Programme
In the home tuition programme the student decides
where to put the focus and names the objective.
When choosing a one-to-one training in the home of a teacher the
student is opting for maximum progress. The student can be assured
that his personal learning speed, his learning experience and
learning style as well as his learning objectives are fully
respected and considered.
The course will develop all the practical communication skills,
with special emphasis on speaking, pronunciation and listening.
Speaking will be developed and improved through discussion,
role-plays, mini-presentations and pronunciation activities.
The topics are chosen in consultation with the student based on a
negotiated syllabus before the course starts and can be amended any
time during the course. Depending on the level and the objectives
the course will cover everyday or business situations. If business
German is chosen the sections to improve can cover: small talk,
presentation skills, negotiating, telephoning, writing emails and
reports, learn about the business etiquette in Germany.
The overall objective of the course is to develop the skills
needed to communicate in German with confidence and to increase in
general confidence when using everyday German or business German.

Please note: A placement test is completed by the student before
coming to the course. To monitor the progress the student has the
option of taking short tests during the course periods. The test is
voluntary but recommended especially when the student stays longer
than 2 weeks. |
Teacher(s)
In the standard course students will have one teacher in the morning.
In the full immersion course usually there will be also one teacher, sometimes there will be another teacher for the afternoon class. As mentioned
before, the sessions in the afternoon can take place at home or at the
school or another public place. All teachers do have a strong background
in German studies and in addition to their degree many years of experience
in teaching German as a foreign language to adults. Often they have lived
and taught abroad themselves and are very familiar with the challenges of
living in another country and learning a foreign language. Students can
help their teacher by providing as much information as possible about the
personal ideas about the course before starting the course so that the
teacher will be very familiar with the objectives of the student prior to
the arrival of the student and has already developed a feeling in which
situations the student needs to use German most.
You live with your Home Tuition teacher and family. As an example you
find here a presentation of a family:
- "You will live in a family consisting of three members and a friendly dog. The teaching will take place in
cooperation with an additional teacher. Both teachers have a strong
background in German studies and in addition to their degree, have many
years experience in teaching German as a foreign language. Furthermore
both teachers have both lived and taught abroad and are therefore
extremely familiar with the challenges of living in an unfamiliar
country and learning a foreign language.. " Pictures of this family
you will see on this webpage.
Accommodation and catering
The student will be living in the teachers house and with his / her
family being accommodated in a nice single room. Please note that it is
common in most German households that guests share the bathroom with the
family.
The host family will provide either half or full board. Availability
will depend on the family.
Which option is the right for you will depend on your ideas of the home
stay. Full board will hardly allow you to escape from German, it will be a
full immersion programme 12 hours a day, however, with the option to leave
the house in the afternoon and have the lessons in a different place with
a different teacher.
Half-board gives you a bit more freedom, flexibility and free time.
Half board means that you will have breakfast and dinner in the house with
your teacher and lunch outside the house on your own or with students from
the Treffpunkt community.
If you are not sure beforehand what you would like to book, please talk
to us; we will be happy to advice you. Please also not that you can do one
week of standard and one week of full immersion and that you can also book
one week of half board and one week of full board..
City of Bamberg
It is a treasure chest of architecture
and living piece of history. Set like Rome on seven hills and
justly known as one of the most beautiful towns in all of Europe,
Bamberg`s magic is inextricably linked to its rich history as capital of
the Holy Roman Empire under Heinrich II, the towns most famous son. It is,
however, by no means a static museum piece, Bamberg is a lively joy to
visit for its history , antiques stores, and world known orchestra . The
university and the 10,000 students in town ensure that it is also lively
and vivid. Last but not least it is called a beer drinker's Eden,
producing more than thirty varieties of beer in the 10 family run
breweries. One of the beers, the smoky Rauchbier, first brewed in 1536 is
the most outstanding one.
Students can relax, stroll through the romantic streets of Bamberg, see
the sights or take part in one of the numerous cultural activities on
offer in the town. At any time of the year, Bamberg offers its visitors a
varied programme. Bicycles are either provided by the family, can be hired
at the school or in one of the bike shops. Home tuition students can
also take part at any time in the activities offered by the language
institute TREFF PUNKT . An important part of
these activities is the Stammtisch a weekly social gathering in one of
the pubs at which language students from all over the world meet together
with locals of Bamberg.
